Memoirs
Studying geography has always been a boring task in classrooms. Maps, geographical shapes and their importance always tend to make us lazy in the classroom. Although our teachers try their level best to create interest in this subject but as a student it is always a puzzle for me. By exposing our students to cyber project helped us to take interest in fantastic venture of this subject. By this project, I not only learnt the importance of a dam for nation but also its impact on various aspects of society both economical and social. I’m thankful to my teacher, Ms. Manasvee, who utilised this opportunity to teach me how to use a map and knowledge of signs and symbols. We also learnt about the geographical structure of the dam which apparently means types of dams like natural, man-made, embankment, arch dam, masonry dam, gravity dam, diversion dam, etc. We came to know about an unknown fact that Ukai Dam is earth cum masonry dam. As we have already studied the importance of dams which include hydroelectric power, flood control, water storage, irrigation, etc., we tried to apply our previous knowledge, resources to figure out the areas why Ukai dam is of immense importance to us. We concluded that the construction of this dam in 1972 was meant for irrigation, power generation and flood control. It also has a reservoir which is known as Vallabsagar. The canals from this dam feeds water to an area of approx. 1500 km sq. and 2000 km sq. This also gave us a real insight about the dams which includes many concepts. Coming back to science and talking about Ukai hydro power station, we came to know that there are 4 hydro turbine units each of 75 MW.
Overall it has been a fruitful and enriching experience throughout. I also concluded that geography is an interesting subject.

I heard a number of times that learning through audio, video aids and Self-learning is quite interesting and create long lasting knowledge in our mind but I personally experienced it in this project. Before the part of this assignment, I never knew about my passion towards the technology and I was a little bit confused and felt anxiety for the role assigned to me by the teachers. But later on, every step of this journey increased my confidence and gave me exposure. I really want to admire this concept that opened a new door to me as the career opportunity.
This project increased my knowledge, confidence and taught me so many things, i.e. teamwork, stress management, research and leadership skills.

Before participating in this project, I didn't know about the importance of research and collecting the facts and figures on any topic. By this project, I learnt that how we collect data on a certain topic and how can we produce results by processing them. It was an amazing experience, I learnt many things from science, social studies, economics and disaster management outside the class. I met people and worked in the team to achieve our set goals. I was the member of website development team and here, I got an opportunity to learn designing concept, developing techniques and layout planning.

Creative learning is not an art but also a challenge, especially if you are a student and working under the supervision of your teachers who have firm belief in you for the same. Their belief for your work increases the burden of responsibilities on your shoulder. Once in class, our language teacher Mrs. Neelam Reddy taught us that Great writers are always known through their accurate observations. This attention to details not only makes fantastic outcomes but also spots the utmost potential of an individual. To get better results, Good and detailed research is always needed as it adds more value to the work.
Being the member of this project, We learnt, how can you observe things and find out the relevant content from them as a writer. May be the scene is ordinary for others but you, as a content writer, have to know the beauty of its simplicity. This project had taught us to be determined about our work and to stay focused all the time. It helped us to decrease our nervousness in communication with strangers as well as increased our patience for the critics towards our work.

Camera is the third eye to see the world. By the picture, you can show the beauty of anything to the world and show the other side of any ordinary site too. As the photography team, we were most responsible to capture the events of this project with the relevance of content developed by the other team. During this project, many times we faced obstacles from the persons who were present on the site. As the Ukai Dam is a sensitive area and restricted by the Government of India, so it was a challenge for us to capture pictures as many as possible in minimum accessible area. We are thankful to all who helped us to learn basics of photography skills. This project taught us to work under the pressure and to finish task in a stipulated time with appropriate planning.
